A routine traffic stopped resulted in the arrests of three individuals, two 18 year old men and a 26 year old man, Tuesday, May 28. According to a report filed by the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office, two plain clothed officers riding in an unmarked law enforcement vehicle observeda green SUV twice disregard a stop sign; once at the intersection of Dove and Edisto Street and again at the intersection of Waterworks and Yonce Pond Road. After the second incident, the officers proceeded to stop the vehicle.
Inside the vehicle were three white males who were described in the report as acting nervously. When questioned as to why the driver failed to stop at two stop signs, the driver stated the brakes in his vehicle were not functioning properly. The driver and passengers then denied that there was any drugs or weapons in the vehicle and consented to a search of the vehicle.
Upon searching the SUV, officers located a quantity of green leafy substance believed to marijuana. All three men denied ownership of the drugs therefore all were charged with possession of marijuana. In addition to the marijuana, brass knuckles and a coffee filter containing a white crystal substance were also discovered in the vehicle. The white substance was later field tested and found to test positive for methamphetamine. Subsequently, all three men were also charged with possession of methamphetamine.
The suspects in this case, all of whom were listed as Edgefield County residents, were arrested and transported to the Edgefield County Detention Center without incident. The SUV was towed. The investigation into this matter is ongoing and more charges may yet be filed.
