BRADLEY, S.C. – Captain Willie James Anderson, 68, of 402 New Zion Road, husband of Gladys Jones Anderson, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at HospiceCare of the Piedmont.
He was the son of the late Willie and Emma Anderson of Edgefield, SC. He was preceded in death by his son, Tyrone Glen Jones.
Willie was a member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in the Promised Land Community, where he served on the Trustee Board and the Men’s Choir. He was also a member of the Promised Land Community Association, South Carolina Law Enforcement Association, and AARP Chapter 4218. Willie received his education from Edgefield County public schools and was a 1965 graduate of W.E. Parker High School. Willie was a retired Captain of the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Department after 26 years of dedicated service and he was employed by Greenwood Mills and Gatewood Security.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years of the home; three daughters, Sonya Yvette Anderson and Courtney Cherrelle Anderson of the home, Cheryl (Ronnie) Holmes of Edgefield,SC; one son, Willie Leon (Leslie) Anderson of Washington, DC; four grandchildren, one reared in the home, Tyra Brianna Watson; and two great-grandchildren. He leaves to cherish his loving memory six brothers, Bob (Helen) Anderson, Hollie (Addie Mae) Anderson, John Anderson, Albert (Elaine) Anderson of Edgefield, SC, Leroy (Pamela) Anderson and Mac Arthur (Janie) Anderson of Greenwood; four sisters, Essie Price of Ridge Spring, SC, Emma Anderson and Barbara (Mac) Wardlaw of Edgefield, SC, and Dorothy Robertson of Greenwood.
Services will be conducted by Rev. James Louden III on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in the Promised Land Community. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers and Honorary Escorts will be former and current employees of the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Department, W.E. Parker Class of 1965 and Brewer High School Class of 1963.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 10, 2013 at the Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church P.L.E.A.D. Center from 6-8 p.m. The family is at the home.
