It was the premiere Second Saturday event on April 13, and one of the features of these Saturdays is a tour of Willowbrook cemetery which is full of interesting stories of the dead.

Heard on Saturday was the one about the man who was buried sitting up behind a glass barrier.  Unfortunately, parts of the grave stones have caved in and no one knows if he is still well preserved and if the glass is there.  However, there are plans to restore this cemetery, using the funds gained from these tours.

Another great story is of the woman, age 29 at her death, who was buried with all her childhood toys.  Once there was a way to observe the toys in the grave, but no more.  The lattice work deteriorated and a cement façade hides the exhibit.

There are more great stories for those wanting to join in this tour, led by Tonya Browder of the Tompkins Library, dressed in Victorian garb and holding a photo album of many of the dead buried in this historic cemetery.  The next Saturday event  will be May 11, starting early with the Farmer’s Arts and Crafts Market, where, so far, one can get breakfast from the Old Edgefield Grill, as well as interesting crafts and plants on sale.  At 9:00 is the class at Tompkins Library for those interested in doing research. At 11:00 is the cemetery tour, with many things to follow.

At the end of the first Second Saturday a crowd enjoyed the two music combos at the Purple Fence, on the square.
