A man suffering from dementia wandered away from his home on Simpkins Rd., at around 7:30 Friday morning, Apr. 12. According to a reported filed by the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office, the agency was alerted to the missing 84 year old when his wife called to report his disappearance.
The ECSO’s canine tracking team as well as a helicopter with the SC Law Enforcement Division responded to the search for the man as family members went door to door canvassing the neighborhood for any signs of him. The Missing Person Alert Program was also notified of his disappearance. It was the canine team, however, that located the man in a wooded area approximately half a mile from his home.
The man was evaluated by EMS, who was on stand-by at the location, but reports are he was uninjured.
