EDGEFIELD – A graveside service for Maree J. Gibson, 90, was held 3:00 p.m. Thursday, March 8, in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Columbia, SC. The family received friends at graveside following the service. Dunbar Funeral Home assisted the family.
Mrs. Gibson, wife of the late James L. Gibson, died Tuesday, March 6, 2012. Born April 13, 1921, in Effingham, she was a daughter of the late Fred Freeland and Lettia Marie Langston Jones. Mrs. Gibson was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. In her youth, she was a fashion model in New Orleans. She was an avid gardener, an accredited flower show judge and a long-time member of the Bay Blossom Garden Club of Columbia. She operated a welcoming service for new customers at Edisto Farm Dairies and she enjoyed playing bridge. Mrs. Gibson was a charter member of Shandon United Methodist Church.
Surviving are daughter, Linda B. (Ted J.) Heos of Trenton; son, Ronald D. Beaman of Commerce, Ga.; grandchildren, John T. Heos and Melissa H. (Mike) Mims, both of Trenton; six great-grandchildren; nieces, Catherine (Daniel) High and Nobia Williams and nephew, William F. (Lana) Jones.
In addition to her late husband and her parents, she was predeceased by four brothers and one sister. Memorials may be made to the Special Olympics of Edgefield County, 3 Par Drive, Johnston, SC 29832
