A clerk with Billy’s Superstore in Trenton discovered a counterfeit $100 bill, Wed., March 20, when a man tried to use the bill to pay for purchases at the convenience store.
According to a report filed by the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office, the cashier contacted authorities when she noticed that the bill did not have the correct markings.
When questioned by officers regarding the bill, the man stated he received the bill in question the day before when he had cashed a check at a gas station in Johnston.
The man, who has not been charged in this case, was given a property receipt for the money, and the counterfeit bill was confiscated by the ECSO. The investigation division of the ECSO is pursuing this matter.
