EDGEFIELD, S.C. – William R. “Bill” Vaughan, husband of Fay Risher Vaughan, left his earthly body to be with the Heavenly Father at the age of 70 years old at University Hospital on March 10, 2013.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 12, at 2:00 P.M. at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home with burial at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.
Bill, a native of Pelzer, S.C., worked at Aiken Electric Cooperative for 33 years and ran a small engine repair shop both before and after retirement. Bill had many lifetime accomplishments. He was a Navy veteran and had been a member of the American Legion Post #30 for a number of years. He was a long time Mason where he earned the title of Worshipful Master and was well known for his ability to perform Masonic degrees. Bill enjoyed fishing but his favorite pastime was his love of racing; both watching and participating himself for many years. He passed this love of racing on to his family, just as his father had passed it on to him.
Bill is survived by his wife and his children: William “Billy” Rowe Vaughan, Jr. (Leah), Edwin Arthur Vaughn, and Susan Marie Vaughan Williams (Kennith). He is also survived by four grandchildren: Adam Herring, Cameron Vaughan, Evan Williams and Brandi Williams. He also has one niece, Mary Corley (Tony), two great nieces, Jennifer and Taylor Corley, a brother-in-law Nelson Smith and nephew Nelson Smith, Jr. and several cousins. Bill was predeceased by his mother and father Ed and Eleanor Vaughan, his brother Joe Vaughan and his sister Lillie Smith.

The family is at the home and will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 12:30 P.M. prior to the service.
