JOHNSTON, S.C. – Graveside services for Mrs. Annie (Jackie) Bonnoitt Boatwright, age 90, will be held Friday, March 8, at 11 am at Mt. of Olives Cemetery with visitation to follow at Mrs. Boatwright’s home.
Mrs. Boatwright, a native of Darlington, SC, died March 4, 2013. She was a daughter of the late Robert Esmond, Sr. and Frances Tucker Bonnoitt. “Jack”, as she was called, attended St. Johns High School in Darlington and then Winthrop University in Rock Hill, where she earned a degree in English. Upon her graduation in May,1943, she married Benjamin Boatwright (deceased) of Johnston, SC, and moved with him to his family’s farm. For the remainder of her life she called Johnston home, where she was known as ‘Jackie’, and taught school for over 30 years.
She was very active in Johnston United Methodist Church for nearly 70 years, serving as both a member and director of the choir, and on numerous committees. An avid supporter of the Edgefield County Library, the Edgefield County Chamber of Commerce and various other community organizations, Mrs. Boatwright received many awards and accolades for community service. She was a member of the Johnston Woman’s Club where she served as president, was an avid gardener and a certified flower judge.
Survivors include her three children: Benjamin Boatwright, Jr., Columbia; Burrel T. Boatwright (Lalla) and Laura B. Boatwright, both of Johnston; sister: Betty Jean Sivas, Augusta, GA; sister-in-law: Johnny Ward Bonnoitt, Pawley’s Island, as well as three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
