The Red Hill Houndsmen hosted their annual Youth Day, Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Brunson Community Center. Approximately 25 children from Georgia and South Carolina attended this year’s event and participated in many exciting activities including the ever popular bench show contest and youth night hunt. Also, as this was a qualifying hunt for the South Carolina State Youth Coon Hunt, several hunters have now ensured their invitations to this forthcoming prestigious event.
Among those who have qualified to go to the state hunt are Keith Joyner, 8, of Alcolu, SC; Jacob New, 7, of Saluda, SC; Clay Timmons, 15, of North Augusta; and Tyler Moon, 16, of Edgefield. To qualify for this honor, Keith Joyner and Clay Timmons won their respective junior and senior divisions’ Sportsmanship awards in the night hunt. Qualifying as first place winners of the night hunt in their respective divisions were Jacob New and Tyler Moon. The state hunt to which these youth have earned a spot in which to hunt is scheduled to be held at the Webb Center in early 2013.
As always, these annual hunts would not be possible without the generous contributions from sponsors and the hard work of volunteers. This year’s sponsors included the SC Department of Natural Resources, Crouches Hardware, the Turkey Shoppe on Main, the National Turkey Federation, Sparrow & Kennedy Tractor Co., Bi-Lo of Edgefield, Pepsi, and the Red Hill Houndsmen hunt club. These sponsors made it possible for this to be a no-cost event for all children in attendance. Along with the free meals and snacks these contributors helped provide, they also ensured that door prizes were available for every child present.
