JOHNSTON, S.C. – Mr. Harry A. Taylor Sr., 77, beloved husband of 50 years to Betty Taylor and adored father of Harry (Chip) A. Taylor, Jr. (Evelyn) and Lynnette Taylor Thomaston (Kevin), went to be with the Lord on October 19, 2012. A celebration of Harry Taylor’s life will take place Monday, October 22, 2012 at 11 o’clock at Bland Funeral Home.. Visitation will be 4-6 pm Sunday, October, 21, 2012 at the funeral home.
Mr. Taylor was born in Johnston, South Carolina, May 3, 1935 to the late Vernon and Addie A. Taylor. He was preceded in death by a brother: Wyman Taylor and sister: Anne Taylor Swindell.
Following graduation from Johnston High School in 1953, Mr. Taylor began attending the University of South Carolina where he received a Bachelor of Arts in English and upon graduation was employed by Norfork Southern Railway where he served 24 years before retiring as outbound freight account manager.
From 1990-1992, Mr. Taylor served as Johnston Lion’s Club President. Mr. Taylor also served numerous terms as deacon of Johnston First Baptist Church, was very active with Little League Baseball and was one of the founders of Francis Hugh Wardlaw Academy.
Harry adored being “PaPa” to his three wonderful grandchildren: Trent Givens, Idalis Taylor and Harrison Taylor. He was an avid fan of the University of South Carolina and the Atlanta Braves.
