2024’s Augusta National Women’s Amateur (ANWA) finished its 5th year in the most exciting fashion to date. Lottie Woad, the 4th ranked amateur golfer in the world, birdied the final two holes at Augusta National to unseat Bailey Shoemaker and capture the most coveted prize in women’s amateur golf.
Shoemaker shot a record-breaking 66 on Sunday from an earlier tee time, leaving Woad eyeing the scoreboard throughout her round to track the score she needed to shoot for the win. Shoemaker tied Woad’s score after an incredible approach on the 17th hole, leaving the 18th hole as her final chance to avoid a playoff with a birdie. Woad’s play on Sunday was near-surgical, so when she stuck the approach on 18 to a makable distance, she nor her caddie seemed concerned with the putt. The 66 on Sunday was the lowest score shot in an ANWA to date, and a score Woad will reflect on frequently as she pursues a career in professional golf.
