JOHNSTON – Memorial Services for Richard Thomas Smyth, age 72, will be held In Ridge Spring Cemetery Saturday, January 30, at 11 o’clock. The family will receive friends following the service at the gravesite.   Bland Funeral Home, Johnston, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Smyth died Monday, January 25, 2016. Born in Chicago, Il., he was a son of the late Cmdr. William A. Sr. and Marjorie McCann Smyth.  Richard was a retired law enforcement officer with the Ridge Spring, SC Police Dept.  During his life, he taught school at Newberry College , Lenoir Ryn University, was a Lutheran Minister and worked with a Mental Health Facility in Saluda, SC. He was of Lutheran Faith.

Survivors include his daughter, Hope Smyth, Charlotte, NC and brother, William Smyth, Monetta.
