EDGEFIELD, S.C. – Marian B. Curry Jackson transitioned very peacefully at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle, Ga. on December 4, 2015. This was after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 12, at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Hwy. 25, in Edgefield.

She was born April 6, 1928 in Chesterfield County, Va. to Elder Montgomery and Bessie Curry. She married the love of her life, Carletha Jackson, who preceded her in death in 1991. They settled in Edgefield, SC, where they were blessed with eight wonderful children. In 2005 she moved to Conyers, Ga. to live with her daughter Carletta, and in 2012 she moved to Rosemont Nursing Home when her Alzheimer’s became severe.

During her residency in Edgefield, she was a very active member of Trinity A.M.E. Church where she served as a stewardess, choir member, organizer of the Annual White Service, and Head of the Young People’s Department (YPD) for many years. She was co-founder, along with her late husband Deacon Carletha Jackson, of the Edgefield Community Choir, which continued some 10 years. After moving to Conyers, she joined Christ Community A.M.E. Church in Clarkston, Ga.

Marian jumped at the chance to help anybody in need. She gave of herself tirelessly through all her years, to her family as well as to her community. Beyond the raising of eight children she had periods of employment as manager of Bean’s Cafe on Jones Street in Edgefield, Nutrition Specialist and Program Coordinator for the Edgefield County Department of Health and Human services, a program Coordinator for the Edgefield County Council on Aging, manager of Dawkin’s Beauty Supply and volunteered as an EMT in the Edgefield County area. She would give the shirt off her back to anyone in need, and if she didn’t have one to give, she would borrow one!

Marian loved to cook and had skills that would rival the best, She was an avid gardener, fisherman and labored passionately producing laudable ceramics in her home ceramic studio.

She leaves behind eight children to carry on her legacy: Cpt. Charles B. Jackson (Vera), Evans, Ga; Carletta Jackson Smith, Conyers, Ga; Reverend Toney E. Jackson (Rosemary), Hackensack, N.J.; Reverend Carl D. Jackson, Sarasota, Fla.; Darnell “Don” Jackson (Maxine), Lithonia, Ga.; Veronica “VJ” Jackson, Stone Mountain, Ga.; Cmdr. Bruce K. Jackson (Brenda), Lexington Park, Md.; and E Scott Jackson (Kevin), Lawrenceville, Ga. She also leaves twenty grandchildren.

May God continue to richly bless the lives of all those she touched during her 87 years.
