A vehicle driven by Tammy Smith of Johnston collided with a logging truck Thursday evening, Oct. 15, at the intersection of Fruit Hill Road and Hwy 378. Smith was airlifted to Palmetto Richland Hospital in Columbia, SC, with extensive injuries. The Advertiser has learned that the driver of the logging truck may have sustained minor injuries, as well, as sources say that he was treated for injuries and released.
Smith is the mother of eleven children, eight of whom are home schooled; three have already graduated. Her husband is a truck driver. The Advertiser has spoken with a source close to the family who confirmed that while Smith is currently listed in stable condition, her injuries are described as “life-altering with the potential for continual care.” To that end, efforts are being made throughout the community to assist this family.
