Concert: Johnston Pentecostal Holiness Church will have a concert featuring Hi Cotton Singers on Sunday, September 27, at 11 a.m. The public is cordially invited to attend.

Homecoming/Musical: North Greenville University’s Baptist Student Union Ensemble will perform at Mountain Creek Baptist Church (Kirksey Community off Hwy 25) Sunday, Sept. 27, at 11 a.m. for the church’s annual homecoming. BBQ: Monetta Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual BBQ, Saturday, October 3, at the main station in Monetta. 10am to 2pm. We will be selling – BBQ chicken plates, BBQ pork plates, hash, ½ and whole chickens, and BBQ by the pound. Plates are $8.00 and walk ups are welcome. High School Diploma: Were you denied a High School Diploma because of the Exit Exam between 1990 and 2014?Act 155 eliminated the exit examination(BSAP/HSAP) as a requirement for receiving a high school diploma.

If you met all graduation requirements with the exception of the exit exam, you are eligible to petition for a high school diploma. To see if you qualify, please visit the Strom Thurmond High School website at: sths.edgefield.k12.sc.us and click on the ACT 155 of 2014 Petition or email dwwoolsey@edgefield.k12.sc.us for more information. The district deadline to apply for a diploma through this program is December 1.

Prostate Cancer Awareness Month: Edgefield County Hospital will be offering free PSA Screening tests in September to all men ages 50 and older(or ages 40-50 with family history of this cancer). Come to the hospital laboratory or Peach Tree Medical Center. Results will be sent to you and your physician.

15th Annual Blessing of the Animals: The Episcopal Church of the Ridge will host this event, Sunday, October 11, in the churchyard of Our Savior in Trenton (off Hwy 121 on Church St.) Bring your pet on a leash or in a carrier. Refreshments will be served to the congregation and their pets. The offering will be donated to our local food bank for help purchasing pet food. Please come, rain or shine, for a barking and meowning good time!

Youth Poet Laureate: A competition for Youth Poet Laureate of Edgefield is open to any junior or senior in high school or homeschool equivalent. Student must be a resident of Edgefield County, must be enrolled for the academic year 2015-16, must have a teacher’s recommendation, and must submit an application with 3 original poems. Guidelines can be found on the Edgefield County School District website, or through your English teacher. Deadline, September 25. Submit electronically to ypl15sc@gmail.com
