To the Community:

The Merriwether Fire Department would like to say thank you for the generous giving during our MDA boot drive Saturday morning.  We collected over $3100 in three hours at two locations on Martintown Road and Sweetwater Road.  It’s nice to live in a community of people who are so willing to give to others in need.  Thank you!

Dear Editor:

I am researching my family history and I am hoping to get some help from the Edgefield community.  I initially contacted Tonya Guy at the Old Edgefield District Genealogical Society regarding my ancestors, the Covar’s, and she is aiding me in this effort.  She suggested that I contact the Edgefield Advertiser newspaper in the hope that a request for assistance would be printed.

My great great grandfather was Charles Covar and he was born in Edgefield in 1844.  His father was Jackson Covar, born May 15, 1820 in Edgefield as well, and his grandfather was John Covar, born in 1797, presumably in Edgefield.  I have done quite a bit of research on them but am now at the point where I have exhausted the resources available to me.  I know the Covar name is familiar in the Edgefield area and I am hoping that there are those out there who can provide information that might give me some insights regarding the history of my family.

I would also be willing to provide those who have similar interests with the results of my research.

Dear Editor:

I was recently in Edgefield doing family research and was struck again by the wonderful way that the important historical records of Edgefield County are protected, yet made available to researchers by such knowledgeable professionals as Tonya Guy at the Tompkins Library and Tricia Glenn at the Edgefield County Archives. They are a class act. My thanks go to these ladies and the volunteers who help them and also to the taxpayers and supporters who fund these organizations.

I hope that all of those who come for family research are contributing enough to Edgefield’s economy to keep funds flowing to Tompkins Library and the Archives. I have visited several times over the years, and what I spent in Edgefield this trip is typical. I had two nights of lodging, six meals in restaurants, and made several purchases. And, since family research is never finished, I know I’ll be back to search through Edgefield’s historical records again.
