Mr. Boatwright, a native of Johnston, SC, died Friday, June 26, 2015. He was a son of the late Benjamin, Sr. and Annie (Jackie) Bonnoitt Boatwright. Bennie retired as Project Supervisor with Triangle Construction and was a former Marine, having served during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a true son of the South: a lover of history, genealogy, and traditional music. Raised in rural Edgefield County, he had a deep appreciation for the land and our natural resources, which he passed on to his children. His musical endeavors took him far afield, both in miles and in genres, and earned him a much-loved community of friends with whom he enjoyed countless hours of joyful noise. He will be remembered most for his love, talent, and incorrigible humor. Bennie was of Methodist Faith.
Survivors include his son: Benjamin James Boatwright (Sarah Wells), Columbia; daughter: Sierra Boatwright Butler, Santa Barbara, CA; sister: Laura Boatwright, Johnston; the mother of his children: Mary Lee May; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Burrel Boatwright.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
