The public is cordially invited to a Cemetery Centennial Celebration. The Edgefield Civic League and Edgefield Cemetery Association will celebrate their 100th Anniversary this month. On 23 June 1915, the two organizations merged in order to better serve the citizens of Edgefield. These groups are still working together and assisting Edgefield today. To commemorate this event, on Saturday, June 20th, there will be a Cemetery Centennial Celebration at the Tompkins Library, 104 Courthouse Square, Edgefield, SC, from 10:30 a. m. to 2:00 p. m.
Two presentations will be given. One lecture will be presented by Ms. Tonya Guy on the history of Willowbrook Cemetery and many of its noble residents. The other talk will be given by Ms. Kim Poovey of Beaufort, SC, who will be speaking on Victorian mourning rituals and burial practices. A light luncheon will be provided. The cost for the event is $5.00 and all proceeds will benefit the preservation of Willowbrook Cemetery. For more information, please call 803-637-4010.
