Update: Westside Shooting Ruled a Homicide

Jody Ray Jones, 42, has been charged with murder for the Sunday night shooting of Patricia Kay Love at their home on Red Hill Road. Love died yesterday, Jan. 13, at Georgia Regents University from a gunshot wound to the head. An autopsy was performed on her body Wednesday, Jan.14. Evidence from that autopsy led investigators to charge Jones with murder; he had already been charged at the scene for using a firearm while intoxicated. Jones has also been charged with possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Jones faced a judge Wednesday afternoon for a bond hearing but was denied bond. He is being held at the Edgefield County Detention Center.

Update: Westside Shooting Victim Dies

The 29 year old woman shot Sunday night at a residence on Red Hill Road died Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 6, at Georgia Regents University Hospital in Augusta, Ga. An autopsy will be performed Wednesday in Newberry.

As previously reported by The Advertiser, the woman was shot in the head Sunday by her reported boyfriend. He was arrested at the scene for using a firearm while intoxicated. He is currently being held at the Edgefield County Detention Center. Due to the death of the woman, more charges against the shooter are expected to be forthcoming.

The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office responded to what is being classified as a gunshot with bodily injury Sunday night, Jan. 11. According to an ECSO incident report, deputies were called to a residence at 316 Red Hill Road on the Westside of the county around 11:30 Sunday night. There they found a 29-year-old woman lying on a couch with a gunshot wound to the left side of her head. A 42-year-old man, reportedly the woman’s boyfriend, was seen holding a towel to the injury. That man stated to deputies upon their arrival that he had accidentally shot the woman. Deputies observed a handgun lying on a table at the scene.

The injured woman was taken to GRU. She is reportedly listed in critical condition with possibly life threatening injuries. The man was arrested for using a firearm while intoxicated. He was transported to the Edgefield County Detention Center.
