Leland Quarles, the 4 month old son of Robert, Jr. and Tanya Quarles of Trenton, was pronounced dead at 3:25 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Edgefield County Hospital after being found unresponsive at a local in-home child care center. The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office responded to the home at which the daycare is located after the call of an unresponsive child was received.

According to the Edgefield County Coroner’s Office, the child was taken straight to ECH but could not be revived.

The cause of death is not known at this time, but an autopsy is planned for Wednesday in Newberry.
