The heavily populated deer woods in East Central, SC will be filled with disabled hunters Nov. 7th – 8th, 2013. They’ll be participating in the 4th. Annual West Central SC “Ultimate Adventure Deer Hunt.” The hunt is being hosted by the Edgefield/Saluda County SC Chapter and Outdoors Without Limits (OWL). The Saluda Shrine Club 1035 Johnston Hwy, Saluda, SC will serve as the events base of operations.
“Shannon Enlow and his team have rolled out the red carpet for our organization and those we serve. We’re extremely excited about this event and are blessed to have the Edgefield/Saluda SC Chapter and the Saluda Shrine Club helping us to provide these opportunities again” said Kirk Thomas, Founder and CEO of OWL. “We are still seeking landowners, volunteers and local participants with disabilities with a goal of accommodating everyone we can.” Thomas, who was paralyzed in a hunting accident in 1992, created Outdoors Without Limits in 2009.
Each participant is paired with at least one non-disabled guide for every hunt. “Guides and volunteers interact with participants forming a hunting team. They’ll work together to overcome any challenges. They might get wet and muddy but they’ll make it happen. Disabled participants want the opportunity to get out there and the guides and land owners want to make it happen. It doesn’t take long to realize and understand the blessings that these opportunities present,” said Thomas.
Chapter President Shannon Enlow foresees a very promising hunt. “As a member and on behalf of all the folks involved with this event we are honored to be able to host the event again. We are extremely excited about the opportunity and look forward to having everyone here for what is sure to be another “Ultimate Adventure. If anyone would like more event information or would like to participate or help I can be reached at 803.480.1650 ,” said Enlow.
“Outdoors Without Limits represents the best of volunteerism and sportsmanship,” said Mitch Long. “I was not only willing, but enthusiastic about getting involved with their mission to provide sporting opportunities for those with disabilities. I’ve had the privilege to help with the two previous Ultimate Adventure hunts. These hunts have had a very positive effect on my life. Each year we’ve been able to provide more opportunities, change and hopefully save lives. OWL is like a family and it’s special to us. We want to share it so we not only invite folks to get involved; we encourage them to do so. I can’t wait to share and introduce my love of the outdoors to some folks that might have never had the opportunities I’ve had. The OWL organization is a credit to South Carolina and our nation,” said Long.
