EDGEFIELD, S.C. – Deacon Willie David (WD) Butler, Sr. of 510 Pleasant Lane Road, the husband of Martha Higgins Butler, died on Saturday, April 19, 2014, Azaleawoods Rehab and Nursing Center, Aiken, SC.
He was born in Edgefield, SC on February 11, 1928 to the now late David and Elizabeth Holloway Butler. He was a member of the Pleasant Lane Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board and a member of the Pleasant Lane Burial Aide Society and the Young Men of Honor. He was also very active in other church and community organizations. He was the owner and operator of Butler and Son Logging until his retirement.
He is survived by: his wife, Martha H. Butler, Edgefield, SC; five sons, Bernard (Dorothy) Butler, Willie D. Butler, Jr., and Carl Butler, all of Edgefield, SC, Glenn (Geraldine) Butler, Fredericksburg, Va. and Jeffery Butler, Cayce, SC; six daughters, Juanita Drummings, Laverne Butler, and Debra Butler, all of Edgefield, SC, Helen (John) Jefferson and Maurice Butler, both of Aiken, SC and Wanda (Dale) Glanton, Johnston, SC; one sister, Christine (Harold) Franklin, Hyattville, MD; twenty-three grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Rosa Lee Carroll, McCormick, SC; sister-in-law, Christine Nelson, Greenwood, SC; one aunt, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the Pleasant Lane Baptist Church with Reverend Eric T. Butler officiating and Pastor Melvin Searles presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 10:00 A.M. The family is at the home of his son, Willie D. Butler, Jr., 174 Moores Drive, Edgefield, SC.
