More than 150 members of the 122nd Engineer Battalion, with Headquarters in Edgefield South Carolina, were welcomed home from Afghanistan Monday at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport. The unit mobilized in February 2013 and deployed one month later. The 122nd Engineers supported route clearance missions and conducted construction projects in and around eastern and northern Afghanistan. Additional missions included training of Afghan Engineers and removal of bases in support of withdrawal of U.S. units in 2014.
South Carolina’s Adjutant General commented, “The 122nd Engineers did an outstanding job during this critical time in Afghanistan as forces are drawing down and shifting their areas of operation.”
