A 58 year old Johnston man was arrested Sunday, Dec. 15, after he assaulted a 31 year old woman from Griffin, GA, at the drive thru of the McDonalds in Edgefield. According to a report filed with the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office, the woman stated she pulled into the drive thru ahead of the suspect, and he became irate, honking his horn, cussing, making obscene gestures at her, and using racial slurs. The victim said this behavior continued even after the man had paid for his food, so the woman reported that she exited her vehicle to ask the man what was wrong. At this point, the man allegedly charged the woman, hitting her in the face with a closed fist and knocking her to the ground where he continued hitting her. Several employees from within McDonalds ran outside to assist the woman, pulling the man off of her.
EMS was called to the scene, and the victim sustained visible injuries from the attack which were photographed by responding officers as evidence. The suspect was arrested and charged with Assault 3rd Degree and disorderly conduct. He was transported without incident to the Edgefield County Detention Center.
