The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office responded to an armed robbery on Lucius Lane near Country Club Road, Saturday night, June 25. According to an ECSO report on the incident, a female was at Soap and Suds Laundry Mat in Edgefield, Saturday, when she was approached by a man on a bicycle. The man asked the woman if she would give him a ride to Bi-Lo. The man offered to pay her $10, and the woman agreed. However, the woman stated that as they got near Bi-Lo, the man then asked if she could take him on to his residence on Lucius Lane. The woman, again, agreed. As the pair were approximately a quarter mile down Lucius Lane, the man instructed the woman to stop. The man then asked the woman how much he owed her for the ride to which the woman reminded that he had agreed to pay her $10. At that point, the woman stated the man exited the vehicle but then got back inside. Getting back into the car, the man grabbed the woman’s arm and took the keys out of the ignition. The woman stated the man was holding a kitchen-type knife and instructed her to get out of the vehicle. The woman stated that at this point she began to beg the man to leave, telling him he did not owe her any money. The woman tried to retrieve her cell phone from her pocket, but the man demanded that she give it to him. The woman relayed that she began pleading with the man once more, and the man then got out of the car and began to run down Lucius Lane towards Country Club Road.
Deputies with the ECSO canvassed the area in search of the suspect as did the ECSOs canine tracking unit. The suspect, a 55 year old black male from Edgefield, was subsequently caught. He was arrested and charged with armed robbery. He is currently being held at the Edgefield County Detention Center.
