The rains of last week did produce flood warnings and brought minor flooding to Edgefield County according to Emergency Management Director Suzy Spurgeon who spoke to The Advertiser, Monday morning, Dec. 28. Spurgeon said that there was some minor flooding in front of Cooks Roadside Stand in Trenton on Christmas Eve due to the overflowing of a nearby pond. In addition, on the same night, there was minor flooding of yards and on Stevens Creek Drive. However, Spurgeon said that there were no closures of roads or bridges due to the flooding.
At press time, Edgefield County was not under any flood warnings, and Stevens Creek, which feeds other area creeks, was under flood stage. However, Spurgeon cautioned that the county is projected to receive 1-3 inches of rain from Monday to Wednesday. As such, more flood warnings may be issued. The Advertiser will post any warnings on our website, www.edgefieldadvertiser.com, as they are made available to us.
