EDGEFIELD, S.C. – Mrs. Janie Cunningham Ryan, widow of Mr. John Ryan, was born in Edgefield County, on November 6,1914, to the late Whitfield and Rose Lee Seigler Cunningham. She joined Mt. Moriah Baptist Church at an early age and served faithfully as a member of the senior choir for 60 years. She was a member of the Freeman Grove Society, Women Aide Society No. 1, Rock Hill Burial Aide Society and the Heroines of Jericho Court No. 31. She departed this life Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at Trinity Nursing Home, Edgefield. She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Mrs. Ernestine Jones (James) Terry and Clara Snell of Hartsford, Connecticut, and Skavon (Rawliegh) Andrews of Rochester, New York; seven sons, Robert Ryan of Hartford, Connecticut, Levi (Gloria) Ryan, Clarence (Rhonda) Ryan, both of St. Petersburg, Florida, Eddie (Ida) Ryan of McCormick, John Henry (Jenell) Ryan and George Ryan, both of Edgefield, Whitfield Ryan of Trenton (one son, Leo Ryan, preceded her in death); Twenty-nine grandchildren; forty-four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Mursier and Mrs. Clara Blair, both of McCormick; one brother, Mr. Clarence Cunningham of Washington, DC; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy Gilliam of St. Petersburg, Florida; and a host other loving relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Monday, October 26, at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Plum Branch with the Pastor, Rev. Melvin Gordon, officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. The family was at the home of Mr. John and Jenell Ryan at 803 Walker Road, in Edgefield. Services were entrusted to Walker Funeral Home.
