TRENTON, S.C. – Rachel Augustus Timmerman Smith, age 93, of Trenton, SC, died October 5, 2015. Davis Way Timmerman and Cornelia Walton Timmerman announced her birth on December 8, 1921. Her siblings are Mary Timmerman Timmerman (deceased) and Margie Jane Timmerman Prince (Nuddy). She attended Tompkins Elementary School, Edgefield High School, and Lander College (now Lander University). Rachel married William Ariail Smith on August 8, 1943. They celebrated fifty-eight years together.
Children include: Walton Ariail Smith and James Davis Smith (Enola). Grandchildren: Cody Austin Smith, Amber Smith and Allisa Smith. Nephews and nieces: Davis Timmerman (Ann), Janey Kelley (Chuck), Edgar Prince (Robin – deceased), Joseph Prince (deceased) (Rebecca).
Mrs. Smith was employed by the SC Public School System in Smoaks, SC, then with the SC Department of Social Services for fifty years as a case worker and county director in Edgefield from which she retired to spend time with family. Rachel was awarded the Order of the Palmetto. She enjoyed her family and friends, growing flowers, and vegetable and fruit canning. She was thankful for her caretakers after experiencing impaired health and those that kept her in their prayers. Rachel grew up attending McKendree United Methodist Church and after marriage, Edgefield United Methodist Church and Trenton United Methodist Church. Rachel will be entombed at Eastview Cemetery, Edgefield, SC.
A Memorial / Remembrance service will be held on October 11, 2015 at 2 pm in Edgefield UMC.
