EDGEFIELD, S.C. – Grace Hammond Reel, age 82, died peacefully on October 29, 2015. Born in Colliers Community of Edgefield County November 20, 1932, Grace was the daughter of the late Joseph Edward Hammond and Ruth Tarrant Hammond. Grace was preceded in death on December 23, 2013 by her husband of 57 years S.G. Reel, Jr. She was a graduate of Edgefield County High School and began working in the Edgefield County Auditor’s office shortly after high school. She later was appointed by Governor Riley to the office of Auditor and subsequently elected to the position. She was a member of the State Auditor’s Association.
A longtime active member of Edgefield First Baptist church she served as a Sunday school teacher, was a member of the adult choir, and served with the homebound ministry. Grace had a heart for missions and taught English as a Second Language.
She is survived by her daughter, Dianne Reel Fuller and her husband Chris of Macon, GA; by her son, Ronald Bruce Reel, of Edgefield, by two grandchildren, Ben and Joshua Fuller of Macon, GA, by her brother-in laws, Bill Hancock and Gene Meadows.
Predeceased by four sisters, Beulah Hammond, Vivian Anderson (Andy), Ruth Hancock and Lois Meadows.
A Funeral service to celebrate her life will be conducted at 4:00 P. M. on Sunday November 1 at Edgefield First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church after the service.
