FOUNTAIN INN – Duane Lamar Malphrus, Sr., 85, of 403 Garrett Street, Fountain Inn, SC, died on September 2, 2015. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Born June 6, 1930 in Ridgeland, SC, son of the late Winfred and Hattie Malphrus. He married Nancy Caroline Ledbetter on August 14, 1951. He graduated from Furman University in 1952.
He preached at Euhaw Baptist Church in Grahamville, SC.
He served in the South Carolina National Guard in the Engineering Battalion as a First Lieutenant.
Lamar began his teaching and coaching career in Hardeeville, SC. In 1989 he retired from Hillcrest High School where he taught English and Drama and coached football, baseball and basketball.
Surviving, in addition to his loving wife of 64 years, are three children, Duane L. Malphrus, Jr. (Marjorie) of Greenville, SC, Calley Foster (Lewis) of Fountain Inn, SC, and Peggy Cinelli (Peter) of Pelzer, SC; grandchildren, Bianca Brazel, Leah Green, Marilyn and Matthew Malphrus, Allison Hunt, Craig Foster, Michelle Emory, and Bryan Saylors; and 18 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 6, 2015 from 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM at the auditorium of Bryson Middle School, 3657 South Industrial Drive, Simpsonville, SC. A memorial service, officiated by Craig Foster, will follow at 3:45 PM.
