Tryouts Set for Monday, August 3
Strom Thurmond High School announced today that it will add swimming to its sports agenda which will start at the beginning of this school year.
The formation of a swim team at Strom Thurmond is in response to the growing interest from the students to have such a team. Coaches for the team will be Debbie Courtney and Jay Torgesen and the swim tryouts and practices will be held at the swimming pool at Pine Ridge Country Club in Edgefield. The first swim season will be during the months of August, September and October of this year.
Strom Thurmond has already arranged for a donation from North Augusta Country Club for the dive blocks, ropes and other incidentals needed for a swim team. This donation has a market value of approximately $9,000.00. The school has also worked out the necessary details for the use of the swimming pool with Pine Ridge Country Club. Both Strom Thurmond High School and the district office are extremely appreciative of the tremendous cooperation of these two entities which will help get the swimming program off to a fantastic start.
The students on the team are responsible for their swimming gear which includes swim suits, goggles and caps.
Anyone interested in being a member of the inaugural swim team for Strom Thurmond High School should contact Debbie Courtney or Jay Torgesen at (803) 275-1997 or Athletic Director, Doug Painter at (803) 275-1768.
Tryouts will be held August 3 at 7 p.m. Location: Pine Ridge Country Club
