Two men were rescued from Stevens Creek, Tuesday, May 26, after the motor on their boat stopped working. According to an Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office report on the matter, a resident of Twin Oaks Drive had driven her golf cart down to the creek to let her dogs run around. When she got to the creek (at the dam at River Pointe Drive) she saw two men in a half sunken boat yelling for help. The woman stated she immediately called for emergency assistance and retrieved a boat for responders to use. Two firemen with Merriwhether Fire Department were able to load the two boaters into the rescue boat and bring them safely to shore. Once safe, the men related that when the boat’s motor quit, they were unable to restart it or to paddle away from the dam. As a result, the boat went over the dam to the other side. However, the men were able to stay in the boat during the crash. Both men were administered to by EMS on the scene, but there was no indication in the ECSO report that the two sustained any injuries. Additionally, the SC Department of Natural Resources was contacted about the men’s watercraft which responders were unable to retrieve.
