The Miss Statesman Pageant at Strom Thurmond High School was held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the high school. It was a majestic event with many in attendance. The contestants began the show with a choreographed opener, gave speeches in their casual wear about events that had affected their lives as young women, and finally wowed everyone in their beautiful evening dresses. Ending the evening was the awards ceremony with the winners as follows: Miss Rebel Pride–Raven Williams; People’s Choice –Antonia Adams; Most Photogenic–Amanda Horton; Miss Congeniality–Emily Cleveland; Miss Freshman–Faith Walton; Miss Sophomore–Carolyn Barrett Guess; Miss Junior–Bailey Pedersen; Miss Senior–Raven Williams; Miss Statesman–Emily Cleveland.
This year’s pageant was sponsored by the Strom Thurmond High School Student Council. Ms. Amanda Funderburg, the Student Council Adviser, was excited to be able to offer Miss Statesman a $100 scholarship. Ms. Funderburg says she hopes the community will continue to be as generous as they were this year and the scholarship will grow with each passing year. She wanted to say Thank You to a few specific businesses for their generous donations; Voila Bridal in Greenwood, Escape Spa and the Turkey Shoppe on Main, both in Edgefield.
