An out of town man was safely located after he was reported missing Sunday, June 22, at Lick Fork Lake. According to a report filed with the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office, the man was reported lost by his wife two hours after he failed to return from a walk in the woods.
Gregory Sheroian, 66, of Gaston, SC, who was described by his wife as being an avid walker in good health with no medical problems, was eventually located alive by one of the searchers that responded to the call for help.
Sheroian explained to law enforcement that he followed the hiking/biking trail around the lake until it ended. At that point, instead of turning around and retracing the trail, Sheroian decided to cut through the woods which resulted in his getting lost. Sheroian was treated by EMS for minor lacerations to his arms and legs.
The report also details how the Sheroians thanked all those involved in the search which included the ECSO, local fire departments, a search helicopter, and the U.S. Forestry Service.
