GREENWOOD, S.C. – Hazel Cooper Bryan, 89, formerly of Belle Meade, widow of Thomas R. “Tom” Bryan, died Sunday, May 25, 2014 at NHC of Greenwood.
Born in Greenwood, May 29, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Otis and Maude Ouzts Cooper. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School and was formerly employed by Greenwood Mills and later was a caregiver of small children in her home.
Hazel was a member of Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church where she was very active, especially as a teacher and mentor to many teenaged girls. She was always a servant and caregiver to everyone with whom she came into contact. Hazel especially loved her family and she had special relationships with all of her nieces and nephews. A lifelong Clemson football fan, she attended games for many years. Hazel also enjoyed gardening and fishing.
Surviving are two sons, Tommy (Cyndie) Bryan of Greer and Cooper Bryan of Irmo; two granddaughters, Anna Bryan and Bonnie Bryan and a brother, Douglas (Martha) Cooper of Lexington. Hazel was predeceased by a grandson, Matthew Bryan; a sister, Sarah McPherson; brothers, James Cooper, Otis Cooper, Jr. and Carl Cooper.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Tuesday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dustin Sims officiating.
Burial will be in the Little Stevens Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Edgefield.
Pallbearers will be Mike Bryan, Jim Bryan, Tim Hayes, Danny Cooper, Tommy McPherson and Joey Cooper.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 to 11 Tuesday morning.
