The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office was contacted on Monday, Dec. 16, by a contractor for the owners of a property on Ann Street in North Augusta (Edgefield County) regarding the theft of copper wire from an air conditioning unit on the premises.
According to a report filed with the ECSO, an air conditioning unit on the property had been taken apart, and all the copper wire in the motor had been cut out. Upon further inspection, it was determined that thieves also accessed the underside of the home through a crawl space door and removed the copper wire from underneath the home.
In addition, there was evidence that the thieves tried to gain entry into the home through a sliding glass door in the rear of the property but were unsuccessful. In total, the estimated worth of the stolen copper was valued at $7,000.
This case has been turned over to the investigation unit of the ECSO, and the investigation into this matter is continuing.
