JOHNSTON, S.C. – Mr. James “Jim” F. Landers, Sr. died Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab of Edgefield, S.C.
Mr. Landers was born in Oconee County to the late John Floyd and Eunice Hanvey Landers on October 10, 1940. Jim and his family arrived in the Johnston area when he went to work at Kendall Mills in Edgefield. He retired from Riegel Textile Corporation in 1993 after twenty-five years service as a Manager of the Claims Department. He was the organist and pianist for Johnston United Methodist Church for thirty years. Throughout the years, he played the piano and organ for numerous occasions including, but not limited to, funerals, weddings, school events, and church services. Jim was also a member of the Ridge Choral Society which performed in Carnegie Hall in 1990 and he performed with many other civic organizations.
Being a kidney recipient in 1996, he decided to donate his body to the hospital that saved his life through the Anatomical Donation Program at Georgia Regents University in Augusta, Ga.
Survivors include his wife Sandra Henslee Landers of fifty-two years; daughter: Stephanie (Gene) Forrest, Johnston; two sons: James “Jay” Landers, Jr. (Theresa), Grovetown, Ga. and Scott Landers, Johnston; three grandchildren, Whitney (Joshua) Berry, North Augusta, C.E. Forrest III, Augusta, Ga and Amber Landers, Grovetown, Ga.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 3:00 pm at the Johnston United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends in the church social hall following the service.
