The execution of a search warrant on Hwy 23 W by the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office’s Narcotics Unit, June 9, resulted in the arrest of one individual on multiple charges. According to a report filed by the ECSO, the Narcotics Unit along with other ECSO deputies as well as law enforcement personnel from the Edgefield Police Dept., SLED, and the SC Highway Patrol, executed the search warrant as a result of an investigation into an operation involved in the unlawful sale of alcohol.
The report details how, upon entry, the suspect, seeing the law enforcement authorities, ran to the back of the building and threw a plastic jug containing a clear liquid believed to be untaxed alcohol out the back door. Along with this evidence, another jug containing the same type substance as well as several opened bottles of various alcoholic beverages, coolers, several different types of beers, a satchel with miscellaneous papers, containers of liquor, cash, and 47 bottles of water was seized from the location.
The suspect, a 51 year old male from Edgefield County, was arrested and charged with unlawful sale of alcohol, unlawful storage of liquor, and possession of non tax paid liquor. The man was transported to the Edgefield County Detention Center without incident. This investigation into this matter is ongoing.
