Piper Tales – The Continuing Adventures of a Very Lucky Black and White Dog
By Penny L. Hunt
Chapter 25
Last week Bill was struggling with an assignment to write a poem as part of his class’s participation in a statewide poetry contest. While doing his history homework, something black and white quickly moved past his door and an idea for his poem began to form.
“Hmmm,” Bill said aloud as he repeated the words he had just spoken to his mom. “I just saw something black and white go flashing past the door. But just exactly what it was, I couldn’t say for sure.” “That rhymes!” he said, as he tore a sheet of paper from his notebook and rapidly began to write…
Black and White
By Bill Shellett
I just saw something black and white go flashing past my door,
But just exactly what it was I couldn’t say for sure.
It might have been a panda,
It might have been a skunk,
It might have been a zebra,
Or a funny looking monk.
What other things are black and white?
Oh, I do not have a clue.
Could it have been a heron?
No, a heron’s gray and blue.
I just saw something black and white go flashing past my door,
But just exactly what it was I couldn’t say for sure…
It looks like Bill is running out of black and white ideas! Let’s see if we can help him.
