Food Ministry: Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Food Bank Ministry is sponsoring its annual Thanksgiving Holiday Food Drive. Please donate canned goods and non-perishable food to the following locations: FairPrice Food Center, Edgefield Senior Citizens Council and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Needed: African Americans with sugar diabetes to participate in a research focus group conducted by Dr. Ida Spruill from the Medical University of South Carolina. The focus group will last 90 minutes and be conducted in your local community. You will receive lunch and compensation. If interested, call 1-866-551-3010.

Voting Machine Available:  The voting machine will be available at the Community Center next to Macedonia Baptist Church for the 2012 presidential election from 12 to 3 p.m. for citizens of Edgefield County. For more information call Norman Dorn at 637-3545.

Keep Calm and Carry On: In consultation with SC Voter authorities, we have been advised that the above notice was missing the words “dummy” and “fake.” The voting machine is a demo (dummy) voting machine and the machine is loaded with a demo (“fake”) ballot. Trenton Flyers Candy Drop:  Kids and the young at heart are invited to join the Trenton Flyers Association Saturday October 27th at the Edgefield County Airport, Yonce Field in Trenton, for a special Halloween treat.  Planes will be on display at 11:30 a.m. and candy will drop from the sky at 12:00 Noon for the children (12 and under).  Rain or shine the candy will flow.

Farmers’ and Artists’ Market: Johnston Farmer’s & Artist’s Market continues every Thursday afternoon from 4 – 6 p.m. in front of the Library on Calhoun Street.  You will find many fresh vegetables to enjoy before frost comes to our area along with turnips and sweet potatoes.  Artists offer handmade jewelry, prints of buildings in our area, and note cards.  November 29th is our HOLIDAY MARKET!!!!

Harvest Carnival: Wyman King Academy Harvest Carnival will be Thurs., October 25, 6 -9 p.m., (Highway 178 between Saluda and Batesburg) There will be activities for the entire family including Bounce Houses, Adult & Children’s Bingo, Raffle, Football Throw, Children’s Games, Canteen, Sweet Shop and Hayrides. Come and enjoy a fun filled family night out!

Fall Festival: Johnston Elementary School, Friday, Oct. 26, 5-7 p.m., Tickets (50 cents each) are required for games and snacks. Come join us for fun games, yummy snacks and family time. Parental supervision required.

Coffee with the Chairman: The next Coffee with the Chairman will be held at 10 Governors in Edgefield, 6:30-7:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 30. Edgefield County Council Chairman Dean Campbell said he is holding these Coffee meeting times about every other month to listen to citizens and be available for discussion on topics of interest.

NWTF Turkey Burn: The NWTF is hosting a turkey cooking contest on the Edgefield town square Friday, November 16. Register to compete for the title and bragging rights of the best turkey frying recipe at the inaugural NWTF Turkey Burn. Registration fee is $100 and includes one turkey plus the use of one table and two chairs. The grand prize winner will receive a trophy and $250.
