The Edgefield County Historical Society will hold its fall meeting at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Magnolia Dale.
The meeting will feature the Blocker family, one of Edgefield County’s early and prominent families. The Society has recently acquired three portraits of early members of the Blocker Family, including John Blocker, Sr. (1749-1814), John Blocker, Jr. (1775-1836), and Mary Tolbert Johnson Blocker (1792-1832).
These very successful planters built two of our earliest historic houses. John Blocker, Sr. built the Blocker House (circa 1790) and John Blocker, Jr. built Cedar Grove (circa 1805).
After the meeting a reception will be held followed by a tour of the Blocker Cemetery.
